Sacred Union

Sacred Union sets Radha and Krishna face to face on a deep red ground, their features built not in outline but in columns of seed beads laid like pixels: coral, periwinkle, orange and black resolving into two profiles only as you step back from the cloth. Blossoms drift across the field, each petal edged in fine silver zari. Devotion rendered at the threshold where pattern becomes a face.

The Story

Radha and Krishna are the tradition's image of love that is never quite consummated and never quite ends, longing held permanently at its highest pitch. Sacred Union places them close enough to touch on a field of deep red, and then withholds them. Neither face is drawn. Both are built from short vertical columns of seed beads, laid at varying density like the dots of a halftone print, so that from arm's length the surface is pure pattern and only from across a room does it resolve into two profiles turned toward one another. You have to step back to see them, which is the point: recognition arrives as a small event rather than a given.

The palette does the emotional work. Coral, peach and orange carry the warmth of skin; periwinkle and deep violet fall where shadow would; black beads mark the eyes and the fall of hair. Against these, blossoms drift across the upper field, their petals laid directly into the cotton canvas and outlined in fine silver zari so the flowers read as drawn rather than stitched, the only line work in a composition otherwise made entirely of points. Large areas of the red ground are left bare, which is unusual for the studio and essential here: the empty cloth is what lets the beadwork resolve.

Sacred Union is part of KURU's Sacred Threads collection, created under the artistic direction of Shantnu Sihag, trained at Istituto Marangoni and Rubelli Venice. Each artwork is entirely hand-embroidered, and the intricacy of materials and technique means no two pieces can ever be truly identical. Every artwork carries its own character, impossible to replicate exactly by hand, and is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
The Artwork

Each piece is entirely hand-embroidered by master artisans, using techniques passed through generations. Because every stitch is done by hand, small variations between pieces are part of its character — not a flaw, but a signature of authentic craftsmanship.

Care Instructions

Dust gently with a soft, dry brush or microfibre cloth — never a wet cloth or liquid cleaner — and keep the piece away from direct sunlight and high humidity to preserve embroidery colour and thread integrity. Handle it by its frame rather than the embroidered surface itself, and for any deep cleaning, consult a textile conservator rather than attempting to wash or iron it.

Shipping & Delivery

As each artwork is made to order, please allow for the hand-embroidery timeline shown above before dispatch. Once ready, pieces are carefully packed and shipped via courier, with tracking shared as soon as your piece is on its way.

Framing & Installation

Artworks arrive ready to hang, framed and secured. For larger pieces, we recommend professional installation, hung away from direct sunlight and heat sources to preserve the embroidery over time.
