Frequently Asked Questions

Answers on our hand-embroidered artworks, covering materials, sizing, commissions, shipping, returns and care.

The artwork

What are KURU artworks made of?

Each piece is created by hand using embroidery, beadwork, sequins, zari and thread on cotton canvas, and arrives framed in one of our signature frame finishes, ready to hang. The result has real texture and depth that catches the light in a way a print never can.

Is each piece really unique?

Yes. Every KURU piece is a unique embroidered artwork, made by hand to order, so no two are identical. Even within the same design, the handwork makes each one its own.

Are these prints or machine-made?

Neither. There are no prints and no machine embroidery. Every stitch and bead is placed by hand in our studio.

Does my artwork come with a certificate of authenticity?

Yes. Every piece arrives with a signed Certificate of Authenticity documenting the artwork, its maker and its making. It is included with every KURU artwork at no additional cost.

Sizing & framing

What sizes are available?

Sizes depend on the artwork. Each piece has its own set of available dimensions, listed on its product page. Prefer something else? Choose Custom Size on the product, or commission a bespoke piece.

Can I choose the frame?

Our pieces come in signature frame colours. For a specific frame or finish, mention it when you order, or request it as part of a commission.

How is pricing set across sizes?

Pricing scales with the size of the piece, and the price for each size is shown on the product page. Bespoke pieces are price on enquiry.

Commissions

Can I customise the subject, size or colours?

Yes. That is what our commissions are for. See the Commissions page for how it works.

How long does a commission take?

Because each piece is made entirely by hand, timelines depend on the size and complexity of the artwork. Additional requests beyond size or shape may extend the making time further. We'll confirm a timeline with you before we begin.

How are custom pieces priced?

By size and complexity. We share a quote after a short consultation.

Orders, shipping & delivery

When will my order be dispatched?

Our artworks are made to order. A standard piece takes 9 to 12 weeks from order confirmation, and is dispatched as soon as it is complete and framed. Domestic delivery then takes a further 4 to 7 business days, so expect roughly 10 to 13 weeks in total.

Large or highly complex compositions take longer, and commissions are quoted individually. In both cases we confirm the timeline with you before work begins.

Where do you ship?

We ship across India, with complimentary domestic delivery via BlueDart, DTDC or Delhivery. Delivery outside India is arranged directly with the studio rather than through checkout. Full details are in our Shipping Policy.

Do you ship outside India?

Yes, by arrangement. Every piece is large, framed and unique, so export orders are crated and insured individually rather than sold at a flat shipping rate, and we handle them directly instead of through checkout.

Message the studio on WhatsApp at +91 93072 00002 or write to hello@kurustudio.in with the artwork, the size and your delivery city, and we will confirm freight cost, customs paperwork and timelines before you commit.

Export pieces travel by DHL Express or FedEx. Any customs duties or import taxes are payable by the recipient. Checkout on the website accepts Indian delivery addresses only.

Returns & care

What is your return policy?

Because each artwork is made to order, we are unable to accept returns once embroidery has begun. Orders may be cancelled within 48 hours of confirmation, before work commences. If a piece arrives damaged in transit, please tell us within 48 hours of delivery with photographs and we will resolve it. Our full Refund & Returns Policy sets out the details.

How do I care for my artwork?

Dust gently with a soft, dry brush or cloth, and keep it out of direct sunlight and damp. See our Artwork Care guide for more.
