Sacred Rhythm

The Story

Sacred Rhythm takes Shiva as Nataraja at the point where creation and dissolution become the same gesture. He steps within a ring of flame that has broken open, red tongues reaching outward on four sides rather than closing into the familiar circle, matted hair thrown wide, the Om resting in the arch above him, a lotus unfolding beneath his feet. The black ground behind is pricked with thousands of tiny silver points, so the dance appears to happen in open space rather than against a surface. Nothing anchors him except the beat itself.

Almost nothing here is thread alone. The figure is built from seed beads, pearls and sequins laid one at a time in tight contour rows that follow the direction of the movement, so the surface itself seems to turn as you shift in front of it. The palette moves outward in temperature: pearl and bone at the centre, then rose, coral and vermilion, then the pure red of the flames against black. Small passages reward close looking: the elephant's grey head folded into the sweep of his hair, the coral crown at his brow, the Om worked in orange, indigo and deep red sequins, the lotus at the base built from hundreds of separately shaded petals.

Sacred Rhythm is part of KURU's Sacred Threads collection, created under the artistic direction of Shantnu Sihag, trained at Istituto Marangoni and Rubelli Venice. Each artwork is entirely hand-embroidered, and the intricacy of materials and technique means no two pieces can ever be truly identical. Every artwork carries its own character, impossible to replicate exactly by hand, and is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
