Sacred Guardian
Sacred Guardian sets Kali Ma against a field of pure black, arms fanned wide on either side, tridents and thunderbolts held in beaded yellow and gold, a tiger's face rising beneath her like a second self. Thousands of red mirrors radiate outward in symmetrical arcs, so the darkness is never empty but watchful. Every point of light is hand-set, catching and releasing as you move past.

The Story
Sacred Guardian approaches Kali Ma not as terror but as the one who stands between you and everything that would harm you. She rises at the centre of a black ground, blue-skinned and crowned, arms fanned wide on either side, holding tridents in beaded yellow, thunderbolts, and small mirrored discs open in her palms. Beneath her a tiger's face opens across the lower half of the composition, teeth bared, so that goddess and beast read as one continuous body, one act of guarding. It is the oldest bargain in the tradition: the fierce form exists because what it protects is loved. The black is worked, never simply left. Thousands of red mirrors and fine gold zari stitches radiate outward in strict bilateral arcs, building a dark field that behaves like night sky rather than empty cloth: dense at the centre, thinning toward the edges, every point of light placed by hand so the surface flickers as you move across it. Her face is the quietest passage in the piece: eyes outlined in black bugle beads, a yellow crescent at each lid, white mirror-florets scattered like a corona around the crown. The restraint of the palette, black and red and gold against one clear blue, is what lets the density read as watchfulness rather than decoration.
Sacred Guardian is part of KURU's Sacred Threads collection, created under the artistic direction of Shantnu Sihag, trained at Istituto Marangoni and Rubelli Venice. Each artwork is entirely hand-embroidered, and the intricacy of materials and technique means no two pieces can ever be truly identical. Every artwork carries its own character, impossible to replicate exactly by hand, and is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
The Artwork
Each piece is entirely hand-embroidered by master artisans, using techniques passed through generations. Because every stitch is done by hand, small variations between pieces are part of its character — not a flaw, but a signature of authentic craftsmanship.
Care Instructions
Dust gently with a soft, dry brush or microfibre cloth — never a wet cloth or liquid cleaner — and keep the piece away from direct sunlight and high humidity to preserve embroidery colour and thread integrity. Handle it by its frame rather than the embroidered surface itself, and for any deep cleaning, consult a textile conservator rather than attempting to wash or iron it.
Shipping & Delivery
As each artwork is made to order, please allow for the hand-embroidery timeline shown above before dispatch. Once ready, pieces are carefully packed and shipped via courier, with tracking shared as soon as your piece is on its way.
Framing & Installation
Artworks arrive ready to hang, framed and secured. For larger pieces, we recommend professional installation, hung away from direct sunlight and heat sources to preserve the embroidery over time.
