Sacred Darshan

Sacred Darshan

Sacred Darshan holds a quiet moment of devotion. Two girls sit at the window of a moving train, the country sliding past, and Lord Vishnu rises in their thoughts above them, crowned and serene on the lotus, marked with the Vaishnava tilak. Worked in gold zardozi, mirrorwork and thousands of hand laid glass beads on a ground of vermilion and saffron, it makes a passing daydream permanent.

The Story

Sacred Darshan takes Lord Vishnu at the moment he arrives in someone's thoughts. Two girls sit at the window of a moving train, leaning into the ledge, and above them he stands crowned on a lotus, marked with the Vaishnava tilak, his arms holding the vessel, the disc, the flowering stem and the gesture of blessing. The whole composition is organised as an appearance, from the girls and their ordinary afternoon at the base to the figure filling the upper field, exactly as large as imagining makes him.

Behind them the field burns: vermilion, saffron and rose dissolved into one continuous heat, edged in silver zari coils and rows of black rimmed mirrors that catch and scatter light as you move past. His ornament is built the way jewellery is built rather than the way cloth is embroidered: coiled gold dabka, seed pearls, a citrine drop at the throat, cuffs raised into relief with crystal and metal thread. Against that density the quiet gestures hold: a lotus bud in flat gold bugle beads, an emerald floret at a girl's ear, a stitched silver medallion resting in an open palm. Worked entirely by hand on cotton canvas, the piece asks to be read twice: once as a moment of darshan, once as a surface.

Sacred Darshan is part of KURU's Sacred Threads collection, created under the artistic direction of Shantnu Sihag, trained at Istituto Marangoni and Rubelli Venice. Each artwork is entirely hand embroidered, and the intricacy of materials and technique means no two pieces can ever be truly identical. Every artwork carries its own character, impossible to replicate exactly by hand, and is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
The Artwork

Each piece is entirely hand-embroidered by master artisans, using techniques passed through generations. Because every stitch is done by hand, small variations between pieces are part of its character — not a flaw, but a signature of authentic craftsmanship.

Care Instructions

Dust gently with a soft, dry brush or microfibre cloth — never a wet cloth or liquid cleaner — and keep the piece away from direct sunlight and high humidity to preserve embroidery colour and thread integrity. Handle it by its frame rather than the embroidered surface itself, and for any deep cleaning, consult a textile conservator rather than attempting to wash or iron it.

Shipping & Delivery

As each artwork is made to order, please allow for the hand-embroidery timeline shown above before dispatch. Once ready, pieces are carefully packed and shipped via courier, with tracking shared as soon as your piece is on its way.

Framing & Installation

Artworks arrive ready to hang, framed and secured. For larger pieces, we recommend professional installation, hung away from direct sunlight and heat sources to preserve the embroidery over time.
