Sacred Confluence

Sacred Confluence renders Vishnu in his four-armed form, holding the chakra, conch, lotus and mace, standing at the meeting point of land and water. Around the figure, a hand-stitched map of the subcontinent's coastline is picked out in dotted thread, with lotus blooms opening at the edges: devotion rendered as geography, and geography rendered as devotion.

The Story

In the Vaishnava tradition, Vishnu is the sustainer, the force that holds the created world in balance between one dissolution and the next. He is shown here in his most recognisable form: four arms, each holding an emblem of that role. The chakra spins as the wheel of time and cosmic order; the conch sounds the first vibration of creation; the lotus blooms untouched by the water it grows from, a symbol of purity within the world rather than apart from it; and the mace stands for the disciplined strength that protects dharma.

The figure is worked entirely by hand across cotton canvas, with sequins and glass beadwork for the deep violet of the skin, metallic zari thread tracing the folds of the dhoti, and a scatter of crystal work at the crown. Around him, the coastline of the subcontinent is stitched in dotted outline, half-map and half-devotional field, with lotus blooms opening at its edges. He stands where the drawn shoreline meets open water, the confluence the piece is named for. The title holds a second meaning too: this is where geography and mythology meet on the same cloth, where a map of home becomes a field for devotion.

Sacred Confluence is part of KURU's Sacred Threads collection, created under the artistic direction of Shantnu Sihag, trained at Istituto Marangoni and Rubelli Venice. Each artwork is entirely hand-embroidered, and the intricacy of materials and technique means no two pieces can ever be truly identical. Every artwork carries its own character, impossible to replicate exactly by hand, and is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
The Artwork

Each piece is entirely hand-embroidered by master artisans, using techniques passed through generations. Because every stitch is done by hand, small variations between pieces are part of its character — not a flaw, but a signature of authentic craftsmanship.

Care Instructions

Dust gently with a soft, dry brush or microfibre cloth — never a wet cloth or liquid cleaner — and keep the piece away from direct sunlight and high humidity to preserve embroidery colour and thread integrity. Handle it by its frame rather than the embroidered surface itself, and for any deep cleaning, consult a textile conservator rather than attempting to wash or iron it.

Shipping & Delivery

As each artwork is made to order, please allow for the hand-embroidery timeline shown above before dispatch. Once ready, pieces are carefully packed and shipped via courier, with tracking shared as soon as your piece is on its way.

Framing & Installation

Artworks arrive ready to hang, framed and secured. For larger pieces, we recommend professional installation, hung away from direct sunlight and heat sources to preserve the embroidery over time.
